1. How the Apprenticeship Works

Your apprenticeship will be divided into five main parts:

On-the-job training: This is where you will learn the practical skills needed for your role. You will be supervised by a qualified employee who will provide you with guidance and support.

Off-the-job training: This is where you will learn the theoretical knowledge needed for your role. You will be able to track your progress on the online tracker.

Functional Skills: Depending on your previous Maths and English qualifications, you will need to complete either Level 1 or Level 2 functional skills in both subjects at the beginning of your apprenticeship. Your assessor will explain what is involved in more detail.

Gateway to the End-Point Assessment

The Gateway is an assessment process to determine if you are ready for the end-point assessment at the end of your apprenticeship. If you pass the Gateway, you can proceed to the end-point assessment.

End-point assessment

The End-point assessment is an independent test of your skills and knowledge against the standards for your apprenticeship. If you pass, you will be awarded your apprenticeship certificate.

6. How to access Hygiene Sue's Policies and Procedures

Hygiene Sue's commitment to equality and diversity, safeguarding, and fair assessment

Hygiene Sue is committed to the principles of equality and diversity, safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults, and the right to a fair assessment. We strive to satisfy these principles in all our activities and published material.

A copy of our policies and procedures is available on the Hygiene Sue website: https://www.hygienesue.co.uk/hygienesue-policies

Here are some specific examples of how Hygiene Sue demonstrates its commitment to these principles:

  • We have an equality and diversity policy in place that ensures that everyone is treated fairly and respectfully, regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or belief.

  • We have a safeguarding policy in place to protect young people and vulnerable adults from harm.

  • We have a fair assessment policy in place to ensure that all apprentices are assessed fairly and consistently.

We encourage all apprentices to familiarise themselves with our policies and procedures. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your assessor or another member of the Hygiene Sue team.

5. Prevent, Safeguarding, Cyber Awareness and British Values

Throughout your apprenticeship, your assessor will be discussing the topics of Prevent, safeguarding, cyber awareness, and British values with you. You will be asked to carry out some research and explain how these topics relate to your workplace.

These are important topics because they help to keep you safe and protect your organization. Prevent is an initiative that helps to stop people from becoming involved in terrorism. Safeguarding is the process of protecting children and vulnerable adults from harm. Cyber awareness is about being aware of the risks online and how to stay safe. British values are the values that underpin our society, such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect.

It is important to understand these topics and how they relate to your workplace because they can help you to identify and report potential risks. For example, if you see someone acting suspiciously, you can report it to your supervisor. Or, if you receive a suspicious email, you can delete it without opening it. By understanding these topics, you can help to keep yourself and your organisation safe.

Reporting safeguarding or Prevent concerns

We encourage all apprentices to familiarise themselves with our policies and procedures. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your assessor or another member of the Hygiene Sue team.

If you have a concern, would like more information or have any questions, please contact our Safeguarding Team by telephoning the designated person on 01892 524957 and ask for the safeguarding officer.

6. Complaints and Appeals

Sometimes things don't go right during your apprenticeship. It is important to know how to get support and make a complaint or appeal if needed.

How to get support

If you have a problem, talk to your assessor or training provider in the first instance. They may be able to help you resolve the issue informally. If you are not happy with their response, you can make a formal complaint.

How to make a complaint

To make a formal complaint, you should put it in writing and send it to your training provider. Your complaint should include the following information:

  • Your name and contact details

  • A description of the problem

  • What you would like to happen as a result of your complaint

Hygiene Sue will investigate your complaint and respond to you within a certain timeframe.

How to make an appeal

If you are not happy with the outcome of your complaint, you can make an appeal. To do this, you should write to your training provider's appeals committee. Your appeal should include the following information:

  • Your name and contact details

  • A summary of your complaint and the outcome

  • Why you are appealing the outcome

  • What you would like to happen as a result of your appeal

The appeals committee will review your appeal and make a decision. They will let you know the outcome of your appeal within a certain timeframe.

If you are still not happy with the outcome of your appeal, you can contact the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

It is important to note that there are deadlines for making complaints and appeals. You should check your training provider's policies and procedures for more information

A copy of our policies and procedures is available on the Hygiene Sue website: https://www.hygienesue.co.uk/hygienesue-policies
